Morphine and Machines

It's been done and he says "he hopes he never has to do it again."

Lyle had his back operated on the 7th of August with the procedure involving bone fusion of lower lumber 4 and 5, as well as a cyst removed off of 4.  He will be finishing out the year recuperating, with walking as his exercise and no "BLT"  (bending, lifting, turning.)

His first few days were quite painful so for the 24 hours following the surgery he was on a morphine pump.  10 days prior to the surgery he had also started having some dizzy spells, with sweats and headaches.  The morning after the surgery he suffered one of the attacks, startling the nurses.  So he was put on oxygen, blood pressure monitor, lung scans,  heart test and artery tests were performed, and blood from an artery was take for oxygen check and chemistry workup.

All the tests came back normal except for a collapsed lung on the right side.  This is common we are told with surgery, but doesn't explain why the attacks prior to the surgery.  He was dismissed from the hospital 5 days after the surgery, where we will allow him to do some recuperating and then see our family physician for a bronchial scope and some more heart tests, if the spells continue.

SO LET THE RECUPERATING BEGIN.

Exercise program:  Laps inside the house.  Quite sure by now the scenery is boring!

Get Well Wishes from the most tender of hearts:

Jack what are you up too?

Grandson Kieran knows how much his Grandpa Lyle
likes KU so he got a basketball playing card.

"You Better Not Pout"

On Saturday, July 27th, we took our children and grandchildren to visit the North Pole at Colorado Springs.  We were in the area for a family wedding the night before and decided we needed to introduce Santa Claus land to the grandkids.  Lyle and I figured it has been probably 25 years since we took our kids there.

So we all rode a ride or two, (or three or four...depending on how old you were); did a little shopping; and a little eating.  Around 2:30 in the afternoon a rain shower came up and chased many of us away.  Steven's family rode out the rain with her cousins that came from Denver to join in the fun.  But my foot accident prior to the trip told me it was time to go take a nap.  Cheryl's family was also heading part way home to Curtis, NE to stay with Chuck's sister for the evening.  As my blog title says, we love to create memories!

Mini Vacation to Colorado

The weekend of July 25-28 found many of us trekking to Colorado Springs for the wedding of Shelia's second cousin.  It was a nice ceremony at Palmer Lake near Monument in a mountain Chapel and Event Center.  Between the 19 of us that went from Shelia's side of the family there was the sights of Seven Falls, Zoo, and North Pole to take in.  Early Friday morning 4 of family went golfing and there was some time for some shopping by others.

Many of us had not been out to Shelia's cousin's home in the Springs for sometime, so some Saturday night relaxation after eating at Fargo's pizza, was enjoyed in their beautiful backyard.

On the day we left I fell down the last step of the stairs
and suffered a fracture to my right foot.
This is my new foot attire for two weeks.

And we all returned home safely.
